4Q, a free magazine aimed at stooodents in Manchester are running this little competition to win one of my paintings, amongst other things. Get involved!
None of this stuff is 'Art'. I say that with (most likely misguided) confidence even though I'm not really sure what Art is. I suppose it's whatever you want it to be. For me, this work is an enjoyable way of spending my time and hopefully making enough money to get by. For you, it may be a pretty picture on your wall or a design on your t-shirt. It doesn't mean anything. I am not trying to say anything. I don't really have anything to say anyway. Except that. Which means nothing.
These are finished and on the wall in the shop now. This photograph shows them half-done. I'll take some photos of them finished tomorrow. If they don't sell while i'm at home today, that is. Fingers crossed!
I bought some of those prints of the New York skyline from Quality save, or BM Bargains, or Poundstretcher, or somewhere like that. A friend who lives in aforementioned city would like one of my pictures, so this will be for him once it's done, I just can't quite decide what to do with it. Fill in all the buildings white or leave some as they are? I like the contrast as it is between the photograph and the black and white drawings (tracings)...this is why it takes me so fucking long to do anything. Indeciciveness. Or just plain laziness. Or both. Both. Definately both.
For these paintings the client (now that word sounds strange) just wanted me to paint my backgrounds. So, effectively she wanted half-finished paintings. Fine by me. When I took them round for her last night she wasn't so keen on the grey at the bottom, but didn't have the heart to send me back home to do them again. I have therefore agreed to go round one afternoon and work some 'nice terracotta colours' into the bottom of the paintings. Which is also fine by me, as I have been promised tea and cakes.
Since I've been doing the £10 Doodles I haven't had much of a chance to work in my sketchbook. You could say the £10 Doodles are my new sketchbook. Anyway, I was missing it, so I bought a new one.
Don't know if any of you have seen this (you may be at work or involved in some other useful activity at this time of day) but Channel 4 have a show called "Life Class - Today's Nude" at 12.30pm on weekdays. I watched it today, and drew this. More of this on tv I say!
At one point, the chap who presents it, and talks you through the drawing process, said "the armpit, where the body hides it's secrets". It struck me as a rather odd thing to say!
I've been asked to paint a picture of these two girls, one has commissioned it for the other's 21st. O, woe, what a terrible, joyless and difficult life this is...
and here are some initial sketches...
Sadly I forgot to take a photo of the finished piece, so, Megan, if you're reading this, could you send me a photo of it please. Thanks.
A work in progress at the moment, 60x60cm. I was trying to think of people who I consider 'heroes', I couldn't think of many. Neil Armstrong is pretty much top of the list though. A brilliant man; brave, intelligent, humble. The first man on the moon, it doesn't get much cooler than that. Unless of course you take into account his years of not speaking to the press, living almost as a recluse, then he's even cooler.
To anybody that's reading this. I apologise for not updating for ages. Today, I will take photographs of the paintings I have up in the shop, and post them on here.
I'm also working on a larger piece, based on the line "Here's the tender coming". Can't give you any more details, it's a bit of a secret, and I might jinx myself if I go on about it!
